As part of its mission to make God known and loved, the Society of
Saint Edmund established two centers for lay and religious alike to discover
spiritual renewal. Saint Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte, the site of
the first Mass in Vermont, is a place of pilgrimage and retreat. Saint Edmund’s Retreat on Enders Island in Mystic, CT, is a place for healing,
recovery and spiritual development. Each year, nearly 16,000 people
utilize Enders Island for guided and private retreats, 12-step programs
and retreats, and a successful and well-recognized Institute of Sacred
Art. |

“When people come to Enders Island,
they’re looking for something. Sometimes
they’re looking for God, sometimes they’re
looking for peace. When they leave, they
take away that they are always welcome,
that there is a place for them in the
Church, that they are, ‘strangers and aliens
no longer,’ but members of the household of God.”
- Father Thomas Hoar, SSE
Director, Saint Edmunds's Retreat,
Enders Island, Mystic, CT
