Vocation, Discernment
and Discipleship
You are being called to journey along your lifelong path to where
God wants you to be. This call is your vocation.
God calls each person to a life of faith and service within
community. Some people receive a special invitation to live out this
calling in professed religious life. Maybe you feel drawn to this
life, which offers both the companionship of a supportive,
family-like community and the liberation of vows of chastity,
poverty and obedience.
Answering this call requires the careful and prayerful discernment
of God’s will. With proper time and spiritual direction, you can
find the path to which the Spirit calls you.
The Society of Saint Edmund provides a unique pathway for men within
religious life, where developing a humble intimacy with God combines
with creative, collaborative service among God’s people.
For more than 150 years, this congregation of Roman Catholic priests
and brothers has been drawing people more fully into living as the
people of God. Edmundites have been missionaries to the baptized –
awakening Christians to the fullness of life in the Church.
This mission of spiritual awakening, spiritual renewal, and
spiritual development goes on through pastoral ministry, educational
programs, retreat work, and service among God’s people in places
where the Church might not otherwise be.
At the heart of this congregation, though, is a profound dedication
to following Christ. In this discipleship, Edmundites first and
foremost grow ever closer to God and to serving God’s will. This
radical discipleship acts as a dynamic model for people in all walks
of life, drawing people toward a fuller relationship with God.
Throughout the history of the Church baptized peoples long for full
communion with the Mystical Body of Christ. Edmundites call and
welcome these people home to their proper place among God’s people.
In your lifetime you will witness unimaginable changes in the world
as well as profound challenges to the Church both as an institution
and as a community of God’s people. Will you be an agent for God’s
will for the Church and the world you’re your lifetime?
As a member of the Society of Saint Edmund, you would be in the
vanguard of servant-leaders who are addressing basic problems and
issues of your time. Through your spirituality, your common life
within the Edmundite Community, and your work in Edmundite apostolic
works, you will make this world a better place and influence more
lives than you could ever imagine.
Jesus extended the timeless invitation, "Come, follow me." What is
your answer?
