Distinguishing Qualities

Four qualities define the basic character of the Edmundite Community:

1. Edmundites are responsive to basic human needs

In their ministries, Edmundites recognize and respond to real problems and concerns in the lives of people that might not otherwise be faced. With adaptability, flexibility, and innovation, this religious community deals with spiritual renewal and direction, basic and religious education, health and social services, and community development.

2. Edmundites are committed to lay involvement in the life of the Church in general and in Edmundite apostolates in particular

By fostering collaborative efforts in all their programs, Edmundites draw lay men and lay women deeper into the realization that they are the Church. The Society aims to support people in their roles in the Church and in the community at large. It draws on its experience, talents, and associations to multiply its impact in improving the spiritual, personal, and communal lives of everyone it serves, as well as of everyone with whom it serves.

3. Edmundites offer a spirit of camaraderie – both within this religious community and toward others

Through their welcoming nature, Edmundites let people know that there is a home for them in the Church. This hospitable character offers a comfortable space for getting involved in the life of the Church in a meaningful way. And this spirit of camaraderie is inclusive – reaching out and embracing those who might feel alienated from God, the Church, and their community.

4. Edmundites share a vision of humble, hopeful service – a model for truly joyous living

Through their lifestyle, the Edmundites point beyond and the materialistic values of popular culture and spotlight a meaningful – indeed, liberating – way of life. Their humility is complemented by a dynamic optimism that leaves no doubt of the great freedom and spiritual richness of a faith-based life of service. This spirit and this vision infect others with a transformational optimism and humility, which ripples out and washes over the lives of countless other people.
